I was keeping an appointment this afternoon, and noticed that there was a flea market going on in the same building. When I dropped in to see, there were any number of things being sold for anywhere from a quarter to ten dollars, mostly crocheted and cloth items, but also a pile of electronics and some puzzles and so on. I found a bag containing a tent. It was marked at $5, but all the prices were halved by the time I showed up, so that more of the mountain of things would get sold. The note said that the tent was "used once"; everything was held in a large sleeping-bag sack, with the rods in their own proper bag and the tent itself tied up in a bundle inside a smaller sleeping-bag sack. I figured it was torn or a zipper was stuck or missing, or there wouldn't be any tent stakes.

This evening when I got home, I set it up. Everything was there. It went up in under five minutes. The actual bag for the tent was inside. All surfaces and joins and zippers were like factory-new. It came down in under five minutes, and when I (an experienced camper) folded and rolled it up, it fit just fine - with rods and stakes - inside the original bag. The zipper pull is missing from that bag, but the zipper is otherwise just fine.

So, basically, I got a $30 - $50 or so one-adult-sized 2.5lb - 3lb backpacker's tent, used once, in perfect condition with all bags, stakes, and rods (also in perfect condition) for $2.50 That's, right: Two. And a half. Bucks. If this were Scrabble, I would have just made a triple word score, added to several other words (adding them to my score as the new words were totted up), and used all my letters (another fifty points) - and ended the game with my opponent holding seven unusable high-value letters!

Wow. Just wow. I have a stuffable winter-weight sleeping bag to go with it, too, courtesy my excellent friend ...
